This short feature shows how the social media platform “Twitter” is being used by members of the International Community (IC) around the world and there is an example of even using it in Afghanistan.
If media organisations and NGO’s are using social media shouldn’t we in the IA community also become “Early Adopters”?
Or are we still to be influenced by 21st Century Luddites and OPSEC freaks as at present?

FOOTNOTE: We had a comment about Twitter being used within the military communications system and its insecure condition. Twitter could NEVER be integrated into such a structure in my view. The intent of the above article is to identify Twitter as a potential means of insecure communication from and to a Target Audience. In other words an additional platform to complement SMS/Text to gather “feedback” as is used frequently at the moment.
Apologies for any confusion.

I appreciate the want and desire to share information, but a centralized C4I is critical to success on the battlefield. Although applications such as Twitter may be convenient and popular, they are not used by everyone and thus key people, and bits of information are not in the loop. Ultimately this is not a bad thing though, as Twitter can’t be considered a secure medium for transmitting sensitive information.
